Overview
Garmin AIRMAR B175HW 12° Tilt Transducer – High-Performance Thru-Hull Sonar for Simplified Installation
Introduction
The Garmin AIRMAR B175HW 12° Tilt Transducer delivers up to 1 kW of sonar power in a flush-mounted bronze housing that eliminates the need for a separate fairing block installation. Unlike traditional thru-hull transducers that require external angle correction, this unit integrates a 12° tilted ceramic element directly into its design, automatically compensating for hull deadrise. The result is cleaner installation, reduced hydrodynamic drag, and improved accuracy across the 150–250 kHz wide-band frequency range—all while providing reliable depth readings down to 150 metres in marine environments.
Key Features
- Delivers up to 1 kW of high-performance sonar power for extended target detection range
- Integrated 12° tilted ceramic element compensates for hull deadrise without external fairing block
- Wide-band frequency range of 150–250 kHz provides exceptional target separation and detailed underwater imagery
- Flush-mounted bronze housing protrudes less than 1/4 inch outside the hull, reducing drag and enabling safe placement on trailer rollers
- Produces accurate depth readings to 150 metres in saltwater and freshwater environments
- 8-pin connector for seamless integration with compatible Garmin chartplotters and fishfinder systems
- Heavy-duty bronze construction designed for fiberglass and wooden hulls in demanding marine conditions
Data Insights
The combination of 1 kW sonar output and 150–250 kHz wide-band frequency delivery sets this transducer apart from passive sonar solutions, offering significantly enhanced target definition and structural detail on the water. The 12° integrated tilt element is engineered to match typical fibreglass hull deadrise angles, eliminating installation variables and ensuring consistent sonar beam transmission. The flush-mounted design reduces underwater turbulence, which directly improves signal clarity while lowering fuel consumption through decreased hydrodynamic resistance. Maximum depth penetration to 150 metres accommodates both coastal and offshore fishing applications without performance degradation.
Usage Instructions
Mount the B175HW following Garmin's installation guidelines to achieve proper hull alignment and a watertight seal. The integrated 12° tilted element requires no angle adjustment—simply position the transducer level relative to the waterline, and the ceramic element automatically compensates for typical hull deadrise. Connect the 8-pin connector to your compatible Garmin chartplotter or fishfinder, configure sonar gain and frequency settings per your system's recommendations, and verify operation in shallow water before extended use. Inspect the bronze housing and connector regularly for salt buildup or debris; rinse with fresh water after saltwater operation to maintain signal integrity.
Design & Material
The B175HW combines a streamlined flush-mount profile with premium marine-grade bronze construction, engineered to withstand prolonged exposure to saltwater, UV, and mechanical stress from launching and trailering cycles. Its low protrusion design minimizes drag while providing additional protection during boat launch and retrieval on roller bunks. The integrated 12° tilted element reduces assembly complexity and eliminates compatibility issues associated with external fairing blocks.
- Heavy-duty bronze housing rated for long-term saltwater and freshwater exposure
- Flush-mounted design protrudes less than 1/4 inch, preserving hull aesthetics and reducing drag
- Integrated 12° ceramic tilted element eliminates need for additional fairing block hardware
- 8-pin connector with marine-grade sealing for reliable signal transmission and system integration
- Tailored for fiberglass and wooden hull construction; unsuitable for aluminum hulls
- Trailer-safe profile allows safe resting on standard roller bunks and supports without damage
Final Verdict
The Garmin AIRMAR B175HW 12° Tilt Transducer is essential for boat owners seeking production-ready sonar performance without the complexity of fairing block selection and external angle adjustment. Its 1 kW power output, 150–250 kHz wide-band frequency, and integrated 12° tilt element deliver consistent, detailed underwater imagery whether you fish coastal waters or navigate offshore. The flush-mounted bronze housing resists corrosion and minimizes drag, while seamless 8-pin integration with Garmin systems ensures reliable operation across compatible chartplotters and fishfinders. If your fiberglass or wooden-hulled vessel requires robust depth capability and automatic hull deadrise compensation, the B175HW eliminates installation guesswork and delivers the dependable sonar performance serious anglers demand.
