Overview

Garmin AIRMAR R109LHW Dual-Frequency Thru-Hull Transducer (010-12182-20)

Introduction

The Garmin AIRMAR R109LHW is a plastic thru-hull transducer that delivers dual-frequency sonar performance specifically engineered for both deep-water and shallow-water fishing applications. With 2 kW of power output and frequency ranges spanning 38–75 kHz (low frequency) and 150–250 kHz (high wide frequency), this transducer provides anglers with the versatility needed to locate fish, identify underwater structures, and maintain reliable bottom tracking across varying depths and fishing environments.

Key Features

  • Dual-frequency operation: 38–75 kHz low frequency for deep-water penetration and 150–250 kHz high wide frequency for broader shallow-water coverage
  • 2 kW sonar power output delivering strong acoustic returns and enhanced target detection
  • Maximum depth capability of 6,000 feet, supporting offshore and deep-structure fishing applications
  • Constant 25-degree high wide beam angle providing wider sonar viewpoint beneath the vessel
  • Beamwidth of 9° x 23° for precise fish and structure identification with advanced target separation
  • Thru-hull plastic housing compatible with vessels featuring deadrise angles from 0° to 25°
  • Bare-wire connection configuration for direct integration with compatible Garmin marine sonar systems

Data Insights

The R109LHW's frequency design balances deep-water penetration with wide-area shallow-water detection. The low-frequency 38–75 kHz range excels at cutting through water column noise and delivering clear returns at significant depths, while the high-frequency 150–250 kHz range produces a constant 25-degree beam that expands the search area in shallower waters. This dual approach allows anglers to transition between depth zones without sacrificing sonar clarity, enabling consistent fish detection whether working offshore structures or coastal drop-offs.

Usage Instructions

Install the R109LHW in a suitable thru-hull location following included installation guidance, ensuring the mounting angle accommodates your vessel's deadrise between 0° and 25°. Connect the bare-wire configuration to a compatible Garmin sonar display unit and configure sonar settings according to your target depth and water conditions. Engage low-frequency operation for deep-water applications and high wide-frequency mode for broader shallow-water coverage. Inspect the transducer and mounting hardware periodically to maintain long-term acoustic performance and installation security.

Design & Material

The R109LHW features a streamlined plastic thru-hull design engineered for durable marine performance. Its compact form factor houses professional-grade acoustic technology while minimizing drag and underwater turbulence. The transducer's structural design accommodates installation flexibility across a range of vessel configurations without compromising sonar efficiency or signal clarity.

  • Plastic thru-hull transducer construction built for extended saltwater and freshwater use
  • Deadrise angle compatibility from 0° to 25°, fitting a wide range of hull designs
  • Low-frequency capability (38–75 kHz) engineered for superior deep-water penetration and bottom tracking accuracy
  • High wide-frequency capability (150–250 kHz) with constant 25-degree beam for expanded shallow-water detection radius
  • Bare-wire connection design for straightforward integration into existing Garmin marine systems
  • Compact housing design minimizing mounting footprint while maintaining full acoustic output of 2 kW

Final Verdict

The Garmin AIRMAR R109LHW is the ideal transducer choice for anglers requiring versatile sonar performance across multiple depth ranges and fishing scenarios. Its dual-frequency design eliminates the need to choose between deep-water capability and wide shallow-water coverage—you get both in a single, durable thru-hull package. Whether targeting offshore structures at extreme depths or searching for active fish in coastal shallows, the R109LHW delivers the fish-finding precision and bottom tracking reliability that serious anglers depend on. Invest in this proven transducer to maximize your sonar system's performance and increase your success on the water.
