Overview

Garmin GPS 16x LVS 12-Channel GPS Receiver for Marine and Professional Navigation

Introduction

The Garmin GPS 16x, LVS (model 010-00258-62) is a 12-channel satellite receiver built for applications requiring continuous, reliable positioning data. Unlike basic handheld GPS units, this external sensor connects to compatible marine electronics, autopilots, and navigation systems to deliver real-time coordinate tracking with minimal latency. The high-sensitivity architecture enables reliable performance even in challenging sky conditions, making it suitable for marine operations, surveying, and fleet management where positioning accuracy directly impacts safety and efficiency.

Key Features

  • 12-channel continuous satellite tracking for real-time location reporting without signal dropouts
  • WAAS-enabled receiver providing sub-3-meter accuracy (within 9.84 feet) without requiring a separate DGPS beacon
  • 20% faster signal acquisition time compared to the GPS 16 predecessor, reducing cold-start delays
  • Low power consumption architecture optimized for extended marine and vehicle-mounted applications
  • Exceptional EMI/RFI immunity prevents interference from mobile devices, radios, and wireless equipment operating nearby
  • Compact, lightweight design (approximately 4 inches in diameter) with industry-standard cable connection for straightforward integration

Data Insights

The GPS 16x, LVS consistently delivers positioning accuracy better than 3 meters in open-sky environments and typical marine conditions. Its 20% improvement in signal acquisition speed means faster convergence to accurate fixes after power-up or signal reacquisition, critical for time-sensitive operations. The 12-channel receiver tracks multiple satellites simultaneously, maintaining position lock even when individual satellites temporarily drop below the horizon due to obstructions common in coastal navigation and forested terrain.

Usage Instructions

Mount the receiver in a location with unobstructed sky visibility—the antenna dome must face upward. Connect the cable to your compatible Garmin chartplotter, autopilot, or marine electronics using the standard connector. Apply power to the device and allow 30 to 60 seconds for the receiver to acquire initial satellite signals on cold start. Once the unit establishes lock, it will output continuous NMEA 0183 position data to your display. Periodic recalibration or firmware updates may optimize performance in your specific operational environment.

Design & Material

The GPS 16x, LVS features a streamlined, dome-shaped housing engineered to minimize wind drag and water pooling on marine installations. The industrial-grade construction balances durability with weight efficiency, ensuring the unit withstands extended exposure to saltwater spray, UV radiation, and temperature fluctuations without corroding or losing signal sensitivity.

  • Durable ABS plastic housing rated for outdoor and marine environments
  • Weather-resistant design compatible with rain, fog, and spray without performance degradation
  • Heavy-duty shielded cable with RJ-45 connector providing reliable signal transmission and EMI rejection
  • Lightweight construction (under 1 pound) for easy roof or mast mounting without structural reinforcement
  • Low-profile dome antenna optimized for satellite visibility across a 90-degree cone above the horizon
  • Color-coded connectors and clear labeling for straightforward installation without technical documentation

Final Verdict

If your marine vessel, survey truck, or navigation system requires a proven, low-maintenance GPS receiver that delivers reliable accuracy without external correction services, the Garmin GPS 16x, LVS is built for the task. Professional mariners, fleet operators, and surveyors depend on this sensor's combination of three-meter accuracy, fast acquisition, and rugged construction. Order the Garmin GPS 16x, LVS today and eliminate positioning uncertainty from your operations.
