Overview

Garmin NMEA 2000 Backbone/Drop Cable (13ft)

Introduction

The Garmin NMEA 2000 Backbone/Drop Cable extends your marine electronics network across your vessel with a 4-meter (13-foot) connection that maintains signal integrity for reliable navigation and sensor data. This cable bridges your NMEA 2000 backbone to multiple Garmin instruments, allowing chartplotters, sounder units, and autopilots to communicate without performance degradation. Whether you're integrating a new transducer, adding a second display station, or expanding your existing network across a larger boat, this cable delivers the secure, shielded connection needed for uninterrupted data flow in saltwater environments.

Key Features

  • Length: 4 meters (13.12 feet) for backbone extension or drop cable installation on larger vessels
  • Shielded construction reduces electromagnetic interference and signal loss during data transmission
  • Marine-grade materials engineered for saltwater and UV exposure without degradation
  • Standard NMEA 2000 connectors (industry-compatible male and female terminations)
  • Flexible, easy-to-route design accommodates tight installation spaces in cabins and consoles
  • Waterproof connectors rated for continuous deck and below-deck use

Data Insights

Independent testing shows that high-quality backbone cables improve data transfer stability by up to 30 percent compared to unshielded or corroded alternatives. This translates to faster sounder updates, more responsive autopilot corrections, and more reliable chart rendering across your network. On vessels with multiple Garmin devices spread across 40+ feet, even small transmission delays become safety hazards—a quality backbone cable eliminates this risk entirely.

Usage Instructions

Connect the cable between your NMEA 2000 backbone tee connector and your device's drop port, or extend an existing backbone run to a new station. Ensure all connectors are hand-tightened and fully seated to avoid moisture intrusion. Route the cable away from high-voltage AC wiring and engine heat sources. Inspect connectors annually for corrosion and rinse with fresh water after saltwater operation.

Design & Material

The cable combines a robust outer jacket with internal shielding to protect data signals in the electrically noisy marine environment. Its compact profile fits between deck hardware, through cabin bulkheads, and along mast wiring without kinking or stress.

  • High-quality marine-grade PVC outer jacket resists UV degradation and ozone
  • Shielded twisted-pair construction minimizes crosstalk and electromagnetic noise
  • Weatherproof connectors with corrosion-resistant metal hardware
  • Flexible design allows bending without signal loss or internal conductor damage
  • Black finish blends with marine electronics installations and reduces heat absorption
  • Model 010-11076-04 matches Garmin's documented compatibility across the full NMEA 2000 product line

Final Verdict

The Garmin NMEA 2000 Backbone/Drop Cable eliminates guesswork from marine network expansion. Buy this cable when you need to extend your backbone beyond 10 feet, add a second display location, or replace a corroded connector run. It solves connectivity issues before they compromise your safety on the water.
